Security Systems Page

Over the years, BDC Consultants have gained worldwide experience in Airport Baggage and Passenger Systems.
Improved Security Screening
Weapons, explosives and other dangerous items and materials are a threat to aviation security.
The presence of these items at an airport is a potential threat.
The presence of these items on an aircraft is a SERIOUS threat.
Routes onto an aircraft can include:
- Passenger and Hand Luggage.
- Hold Baggage.
- Cargo and Aircraft Supplies.
- Staff and Authorised Personnel.
Effective screening technology and supporting processes are required to provide a real guard against terrorism.
However, practical screening solutions need to take account of:
- Potentially high passenger and bag volumes.
- Existing infrastructure (equipment, floor space).
- Processing times.
- Implementation and operating costs.
BDC are able to determine the present screening capabilities and identify the key requirements to achieve internationally recognised security standards.
Our practical experience of implementing these systems in an operational environment, allows us to advise on implementation and phasing strategies.
Audit of Existing Security System
This service examines and documents the existing security screening systems and their supporting processes. It also determines the present day capacity volumes and process timing requirements that the system operates to.
- Audit of existing security screening capability.
- Definition of integration with baggage system.
- Definition of supporting systems, e.g. B.R.S. (Baggage Reconciliation Systems).
Gap Analysis to Security Standards (e.g. U.K. DETR, FAA)
BDC have extensive experience in implementing security systems into existing Airport infrastructures, to internationally recognised standards.
We are therefore able to evaluate the existing security system against the desired standards. From this, potential failings and shortfalls are identified and recommendations on improvements can be put forward.
- Identify areas of shortfall in existing security system
- Advise on improvements including:
- Upgrade of existing equipment.
- Equipment customisation.
- Integration of various technologies.
- Provision of new equipment.
- Improved operational methods & training.
Procurement Advice
BDC Consultants do not make or supply equipment. We are therefore able to provide trul independent technical advice during equipment procurement. This can include:
- Definition of equipment requirements.
- Selection and short-listing of suitable suppliers.
- Pre-purchase tests, trials and data analysis.
- Acceptance trials and data analysis.
- Process impact upon baggage, passengers and schedules.
Security Scenario Analysis
The "mind set" of a potential terrorist is envisaged and a range of possible terrorist scenarios are created. Each scenario is methodically developed and worked through within the scope of the existing security systems.
Successful scenarios identify potential security shortfalls and allow improvements to be developed.
This can be carried out as a Workshop activity involving your key staff.
